Crafting at Christmas in Primary 2 Mrs Quigley's class

13th Dec 2018

Celebrating Christmas in the classroom, is one of the most special times of the year. It is a joyous and uplifting occasion. This festive season is the ideal time to get creative and get sparkly.

Children acquire a vast range of skills from craft sessions. Their creativity is stoked, their fine motor skills are refined, confidence and problem-solving abilities are improved, and you get to spend some fun, adult-child time together. The practices of sticking, colouring, cutting and keeping within lines or patterns, can assist fine motor skill development, and improve hand eye co-ordination.

Creating a craft is a goal oriented task, that teaches children to follow instructions; by following a simple set of steps, in the correct order, they will complete their craft. Crafting also teaches children the consequences if they don’t follow the steps, and why they should do things the right way, first time. An important life lesson.
