P7 Leavers’ Awards

On behalf of the Board of Governors and all the staff at St Mary’s may I wish all our Primary 7 pupils every success and best wishes in their post-primary schools.

Our P7 Leavers’ Awards Assembly will take place tomorrow, Friday 21st June from 11.00am in the school assembly hall.

Retirements

On August 31st Mrs Downey and Mr Martin will officially retire from their accomplished teaching careers at St Mary’s. On behalf of the Board of Governors, parents, children and staff at St Mary’s may I wish them both a long and restful retirement. May I also welcome Mrs Murphy to our P7 year group and Mrs Slevin who will join us in P3 from September.

Donard Challenge

Congratulations to all our Primary 7 boys and girls who took part in the Donard Challenge on Friday 24th May. Thank you to all the volunteers, PTA and staff who accompanied the children on the walk and ensured their safety. The feedback has been very positive and everybody agreed they had an incredible day. Well done to you all.

Annual Handwriting Competition

Our annual handwriting competition 'Write it Right' proved yet again to be another successful event! Every class throughout the school received three awards for the Best Boy, Best Girl and the Most Improved and I congratulate all our deserving winners. The handwriting competition is a very important event in the school year as it ensures that every pupil understands the importance of presenting their written work neatly. A full list of winners is available on the school website.

A huge ‘Thank You’ to Mrs McArdle and our wonderful PTA who very kindly funded the trophies which the children may keep.

PTA

The fantastic work of our very active and successful PTA has helped the school fund many things over the past year. It has also decreased the burden of the financial cuts faced by our school.

This year our PTA paid the total cost of the Time for Me Counselling service provided by Barnardo’s, at a cost of approximately £600 per month. It allocated over £1,000 for astronomy equipment, it purchased a new Gaelic football strip for the school team and helped fund the Action Cancer Big Bus. It also made successful grant applications of over £7,000 for IT equipment, a new girls football strip, gardening equipment and our outdoor classroom and various supplies and equipment.

Our PTA also provides financial support for our End of Year Awards at P7, the hire of buses and unseen costs the school encounters throughout the year.

Please join our PTA, support our PTA, support your child’s school, and help reduce the impact on our school and on your child’s education of the ongoing financial cuts in education.

Our end of year Leavers’ Disco will take place on Friday 21st June from 6.30pm to 7.30pm for children up to P3 and from 7.45pm to 9.00pm for children from P4 to P7 in the school hall, admission £3.00.
