A Hedgehog Adventure at FE McWilliam Gallery - P2 Mrs Quigley

25th Nov 2025

What a wonderful day we had at the FE McWilliam Gallery in Banbridge. The Primary 2 children were very excited, ready to explore and create. The experience didn’t disappoint.

We began with an art trail around the gallery, guided by Jason. He made the trail so engaging, encouraging the children to look closely at the sculptures and share what they noticed. The children loved spotting shapes and textures and imagining the stories behind the artwork.

After the trail, it was time for the art workshop. Debbie, Ada, Anne-Marie, and Joan encouraged the children to roll up their sleeves and get creative with clay, making their very own hedgehogs. Each hedgehog was unique—some had spiky backs, others had smooth ones, and all were full of personality. To make the hedgehogs feel at home, the children created cosy nests of leaves, carefully arranging them so their little clay friends could snuggle in and keep warm during the winter months.

With lots of imagination, the children designed cheerful paper plate hedgehog faces that looked amazing. There were big smiles all around as they proudly showed off their creations.

The kindness and encouragement of the facilitators helped the children feel confident and creative. Every child felt included and inspired.

The children were buzzing with excitement. It was a day full of creativity and joy—a memory they will treasure for a long time.
