Thinking Skills and Capabilities
At St Mary’s Primary School, Thinking Skills and Personal Capabilities are embedded across all areas of learning and school life. We believe that developing these skills is essential to empowering our pupils to become independent, reflective, and resilient learners.
From the classroom to the playground, children are encouraged to think critically, solve problems creatively, manage their emotions, and work collaboratively with others. These capabilities are not taught in isolation—they are woven into everyday experiences, helping pupils to make connections in their learning, adapt to new challenges, and grow in confidence.
By fostering curiosity, initiative, and self-awareness, we prepare our children not only for academic success but also for life beyond school, in line with our vision of ensuring every child feels safe, valued, and empowered to thrive.
