EA Literacy Service resources to support your child at home.

23rd Mar 2020

The EA Literacy Service have provided information on recommended apps and websites that are helpful for supporting Literacy development. Some are free and some have a cost, but this is detailed. ‘Teach your monster to read’ app is currently free due to the crisis and this is likely to be true for some of the other paid apps at the moment.
Audible are currently offering children free access to audio books, and these can be downloaded from the NI library service through the Overdrive app. Listening to audio books is great for developing children’s vocabulary and giving them access to age-appropriate stories that may be too challenging for them to read. https://www.zdnet.com/article/audible-to-provide-free-audiobooks-for-children-teens-during-covid-19-pandemic/.
World Book Online are also offering free access to books and other learning resources. Some of these have a great function where the book will be read aloud while the child follows it, and they have some interesting non-fiction titles. https://www.worldbook.com/wbblog/covidsupport.

There are also free phonics games available currently at: www.phonicsplay.co.uk. They are also providing free online comics at: www.phonicsplaycomics.co.uk.

For information how to access/download all the above, please go to your child's year group Home Learning area.

Happy Literacy!
